In the longest running example of Selfish Self Interest to ever clog our country's court system, Jeb Bush just ordered doctors to reinsert a feeding tube into Terri Schiavo, whose husband, Michael Schiavo, has fought for years to allow her to die with some level of dignity. On the other end of this seesaw battle are Schiavo's parents, who have fought for several years to keep her alive. To me, there is very little that could be said in defense of Schiavo's parents. They are putting their self-interest before their daughter's right to a quality life. In case you're not interested in digging into the link above, Schiavo is a piece of cabbage with a husband. She has been this way for 13 years and a legal battle has been waged for almost as long. Most proponents of the bill that allowed Jeb to intervene cry out about miracles and god to facilitate their misdirected belief that Terri wants to live. But if you think about it from BOTH a rational and religious viewpoint, the people who are trying to prevent Terri from passing away are denying god's plan. If you believe in god, as I'm sure many of these people do, then you should believe that god has a plan for everything. Perhaps god has wanted Terri at his side, up there in heaven, to help guide those of us still tied to the mortal coil. Ever think of that you self-righteous zealots?
