The light from the open window searched the shadows for purchase. Finding none, it would retreat like waves on a dark beach. The woman slept quietly in a overstuffed couch nearest the window, her form cast in shadow one moment, brightly lit the next. The effect of light and dark brought about the curtains as they billowed in the wind. I sat in the chair on the other side of the room, content in the darkness surrounding me. I was fascinated by this image. Not knowing whether or not to wake her since I was an uninvited guest in her home. Normally, I wouldn't step into someone's apartment without prior invitation but the open door was odd and I, being the curious sort, knocked softly and entered. She could have been dead but for the soft bob of her head as it sat on her chest which was rising and falling softly. She was beautiful in a way that took my breath away, quiet beauty that fills your heart and eyes in equal measure. I rose from the chair and backed away towards the door, leaving nothing but my memory as evidence that this had a happened at all. Somethings are better left unsaid.
