No shit, this is what the western sky looked like tonight at sunset. It looks like the sky caught fire. This image has not been retouched or color corrected. This is exactly what it looked like straight from the camera and onto my hard drive. It reminds me of a scene from Damnation Alley starring everyone's favorite wunderkind actor, Jackie Earl Haley. You may recognize Jackie Earl from such notable 70s films as Bad News Bears, Bad News Bears: Breaking Training and the much beloved, Bad News Bears Go To Japan. Damnation Alley also starred Jan Michael Vincent long before he became a fat, bloated wife beater. Ahh... the 70s were ripe with the kind of cinema that makes most critics choke but not me. I loved the 70s.
A really good friend of mine passed along this poem that she wrote some years ago. She thought (and I agree) that this poem perfectly captures this image.
Crimson sky of anger
settle with the passing sun
Glowing rage of color
be soothed by the horizon
the last glimpse of day
melts away and is swallowed by the night
distant stars... crescent moon
conquer the sky, illuminate it with specks of radiant light
Another day has passed
blanketed by a moment of color
the sky smudges black
as the future becomes present
Soon, the glow of the East
takes the present to the past
and another day arises
as quickly as the last.
