I have an unbelievably high pain threshold. It started when I was a kid, around the time I broke all my fingers in one fell swoop sliding across the rain-slicked patio floor. I was eight and I spent the entire summer having to deal with broken fingers without casts, just splints. I couldn't take the awkward way I fumbled everyday chores so I took them all off and just learned to deal with the pain. At some point my hands stopped hurting. At the same time, I stopped feeling all but the most dull aches. Sharp pain? Can't feel it. Burning flesh? Nope. Bone deep open wounds? Sorry, no. All these injuries I've had and didn't realize it until I was informed by other sources, most notably, other people. In the instance of the bone deep open wound, I was arguing with a grade-school chum who thought it would be funny to poke me with his pencil in the ass cheek. Unfortunately, I couldn't feel it sink in and leaned into it. The pencil went about 3 inches into my flesh before someone pointed out that I was bleeding profusely. The doctor cleaned out the wound, gave me four stitches and didn't use any local anesthetic. It is bothersome sometimes as I rarely ever realize I've been injured until someone starts pointing out that my flesh is charring, I'm bleeding, something has been forcibley removed, bones are pointed at weird angles or I throw up (in the case of broken bones, you get nauseous from the release of something in your marrow into your blood stream). I bring these things up because I'm in the process of putting together a list of 100 things about me for the Yankee Blogger. Although the project is closed, I thought it an interesting undertaking. Check out the list and be amazed that 100 random people put together lists of 100 facts about themselves in about 10 days. Talk about generating traffic without having to resort to images of bikini-clad vixens in various states of posture. Although, I'm thinking of getting some female friends to pose in wet biscuitindex baby tees to see how much traffic I can generate.
