Did any of you watch that endearing display of humanity held near the Berkeley campus? I was born in Mexico, thereby making me a minority (unless you read the latest census figures). Surprisingly, I don't believe affirmative action is something minorities need. I'm always curious as to why anyone of color would want Affirmative Action. I believe that Affirmative Action is just one more way that society coddles the weak and indifferent. No matter what color you are, no matter what access to education you have had, if you're bright and apply yourself, you will succeed. I didn't even list my race on my college applications because I wanted to earn what I received, including college admission, based solely on my ability and performance. I guess I'm just naive, but just because you go to the top schools doesn't automatically ensure success. Some people seem to forget that the real world isn't fair so why should college admissions be any different. Besides, just because one door closes doesn't mean you have to give up. I know, some bleeding heart liberal is going to write me and say, "some kids don't have the access to education that you had!" I say Bullshit! My parents chose to move my brothers and I rather than allow us to be influenced by our environment. Granted, not everyone has that luxury but if there is a will, there is a way. As far as I'm concerned, the people screaming for affirmative action would be much better off improving their position through hard work and desire rather than whining about what isn't being handed to them on a silver platter...just my .02 cents...
